The ARVANTEO Shearling Aviator

A women's aviator in single-hide sheepskin shearling, cropped to the hip and cut closer through the body than the men's piece so the fleece collar frames the face rather than swallowing it. The collar folds up and fastens; cuffs and hem are finished in the same fleece. Genuinely warm — this is a winter coat, not a winter-looking one.

Most shearling made for women is either a copy of a men's pattern or a fashion version with the fleece as trim. This one is neither: a full shearling built on a women's block, with the proportions of the collar and the length of the body decided by how the piece sits when it is worn open — which, in a jacket this warm, is most of the time.

Leather has very little give, so the fit you buy is the fit you keep. If you are between sizes, check the shoulder measurement first — it is the one measurement that cannot be altered.

Store on a wide hanger with room around it — shearling needs air. Brush the fleece with a soft brush; wipe the hide with a barely damp cloth and let it dry away from heat. Never machine wash, tumble dry or apply conditioner to the fleece. Have it professionally cleaned when needed.
