From leather selection to the final stitch, every detail matters. Here is what actually happens between a hide arriving and a jacket leaving.

Leather selection
Hides are graded before anything is cut. We look at thickness consistency, grain, and how evenly the hide takes dye. Full-grain cowhide for pieces that need to hold their shape; lambskin where softness and drape matter more than structure. A hide that is inconsistent across its area is rejected, because the panels cut from it would not age evenly.

Cutting
Leather stretches differently along different axes, and every hide has areas that are firmer or looser. Panels are positioned to put the most stable leather where the jacket takes the most stress — the shoulders, the upper back, the panel behind the zip. Get this wrong and the jacket loses its line within a year.

Stitching
Stress seams — shoulders, armholes, side panels — are double-stitched. Stitch length is kept consistent, because an uneven stitch line concentrates stress at its longest points. Thread is bonded nylon: it will not rot, and it outlasts the leather around it.

Hardware
Branded zips throughout — the single most common point of failure on a leather jacket, and the cheapest place to cut a corner. Zip pulls are solid rather than hollow, so they feel like part of the jacket rather than an attachment. Snaps are set to close with a definite action and not rock when fastened.

Lining
Viscose body linings, stitched in rather than glued. Stitched linings can be replaced by a leather specialist in fifteen years, when the leather is still good and the lining has worn through at the underarm. Glued linings cannot be removed cleanly, which turns a routine repair into a write-off.

Finishing and inspection
Edges are finished, hardware is tested, and every jacket is checked panel by panel against the pattern before it is packed. Leather is a natural material — small variations in grain are expected and are not faults. Inconsistent panels, skipped stitches and misaligned hardware are.

What we do not claim

We are not going to tell you our leather is sustainable. Leather is a by-product of the meat industry and tanning is a chemically intensive process; any brand claiming otherwise is overreaching. What we will tell you is that a jacket built to last fifteen years has a materially different footprint from three that last five, and that longevity is the part we can actually control.
